NHS Talking Therapies offers free NHS therapy for people in Knowsley with common mental health problems such as anxiety or depression, to help you change the way you feel by changing the way you think.  You can access online therapy available 24/7, with weekly online support from your therapist or attend a six week course that will help you to develop skills to manage your mood. Those who need extra support can access one-to-one therapy . You can find out more by visiting the Merseycare website.

Supporting the mental health of children and young people is so important, especially after the additional challenges and pressures experienced throughout – and following – the COVID 19 pandemic.

Here in Knowsley, the Council is working with health partners, charities and community groups to provide a wide range of support for young people and their families who may be dealing with mental health issues.

Children and young people mental health crisis support

For young people up to the age of 18 experiencing emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties which are causing difficulties in their school, family or social life.

Available 24/7, for children and young people up to age 18 (registered with a GP in Knowsley, Halton, St Helens or Warrington).

Advice and guidance

The agencies below can offer support to help you look after your child’s mental health.

  • Kooth is an online mental wellbeing community (commissioned by the Council and the NHS) that provides anonymous and personalised mental health support for children and young people.
  • Listening Ear provide support for children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health.  Self-referrals are welcome. Email [email protected], call 0151 488 6648 or visit listening-ear.co.uk.

  • Young Minds is a mental health charity for children and young people.
  • Mind provides a range of information and useful contacts for young people.
  • Knowsley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) works with young people up to the age of 18 who have emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties which are causing difficulties in their school, family or social life. Speak to your GP, health visitor, social worker or school health advisor who will be able to refer you into this specialist service.
  • Papyrus – is for children and young people under the age of 35 who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, or anyone concerned about a young person. Find out more by calling 0800 068 41 41 or visit the website www.papyrus-uk.org.

Support in schools

All of Knowsley’s schools share a commitment to support the children and young people in their care to stay safe and well – and supporting their mental health is a key part of that.

Individual schools will have their own support in place and parents and carers are encouraged to speak to their child’s school if they have any concerns or questions.
