Centre 63 – a vital source of training for vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

The Remake Yourself Hub in Kirkby is a vital source of training for vulnerable and disadvantaged people, diverts waste furniture from landfill and develops upcycling, upholstering and carpentry skills. The furniture can be used to support the young people into their first homes. In total, 24 young people were invited to take part in the programme.

Twelve people with a passion for crafts and recycling have so far been through the project, with a further 12 due to take part. As well as developing skills, participants have reported a boost to their confidence (90% of participants) as well as providing a sense of satisfaction, and reducing social isolation. All enjoyed the social engagement aspect of the programme. Two participants have gone on into full-time employment and another has been supported to enrol onto a further education course. Another outcome is the amount of furniture that has been brought back into use and preventing items going to landfill.
